Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful psychotherapy approach that has been proven to be highly effective in relieving many types of psychological distress.
Along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, it is recommended by the World Health Organization for people suffering from PTSD.
EMDR helps people to heal by reprocessing disturbing memories on a cognitive, physical, and emotional level. This allows individuals to see the disturbing material in a different, more adaptive way.
The psychologists at Alberta Counselling Centre who are trained EMDR therapists follow a set of standardized protocols that incorporate elements from cognitive behavioural therapy and other treatment approaches. We are pleased to offer EMDR treatments utilizing EMDR equipment that is authorized by the EMDR Institute for use with adults, adolescents, and children.
EMDR for Children
Children are not simply "little adults." Therapy must be developmentally appropriate and designed to address the specific needs of children.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is used to help children recover from strong emotional reactions to difficult things (traumas) that have happened in their lives.
Our child EMDR therapists have extensive experience working with children, and have taken additional specialized training in the specific EMDR protocols that are used with children.
Alberta Counselling Centre is pleased to offer child therapy and EMDR protocols that are safe and evidence-based for children.
