Alberta Counselling Centre is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information. This Privacy Policy explains, in general terms, how we collect, use, disclose, protect, and retain personal information through our website, contact forms, email, telephone, and online booking tools.
This policy is intended to support the privacy obligations applicable to a private-sector healthcare practice in Alberta, including Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), applicable professional obligations of the College of Alberta Psychologists, and, where applicable, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

- Schedule, confirm, or manage appointments and services.

Your privacy rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, and withdraw consent to certain uses or disclosures where permitted by law. To make a request, contact our Privacy Officer using the information below.
Contact forms and website inquiries
If you use our website contact form, we will use the information you provide to respond to your inquiry. Please do not include urgent, highly sensitive, or extensive clinical details in an online contact form. If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency service.
Online booking and third-party services
Our online booking and practice management system is provided through Jane App. Information you provide through online booking or that we store in Jane in connection with our services may be processed through that platform. We also use website tools such as Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
Cookies and analytics
Our website may use cookies and analytics tools to understand website traffic, improve site performance, and measure website usage. These tools may collect technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited.
Consent
By contacting us, submitting a form, booking an appointment, or otherwise providing personal information, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of that information for the purposes described in this policy, subject to applicable law. You may withdraw consent in some circumstances, although doing so may limit our ability to provide services or respond to your request.
When we may disclose information
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose personal information through Jane App when you use our online booking system or when information is stored there in connection with our services, with consent or authorization, and where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
Safeguards
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards that are reasonable and appropriate for a psychology practice to help protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, or alteration.
Retention
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy and to meet legal, regulatory, insurance, tax, and professional record-keeping obligations. Where applicable to clinical records, retention periods may include at least 10 years after last contact for adults and, for minors, 10 years after the person reaches the age of majority.
Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will take steps required by applicable law, which may include containment, assessment, notification of affected individuals, and reporting to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
